Tolman High School boys beats Barrington in Division II Boys Volleyball State Championship final
Tolman High School boys volleyball team was able to hand out a defeat to Barrington in the final of the Division II Boys Volleyball State Championship that was played on Friday. The venue for the match that went on to four exciting sets was Rhode Island
College.
Tolman was fuelled by the two defeats it had suffered at the hands of the Eagles the both times that they met them in this season and they were focused to make the final their key to redemption. Tolman was able to compensate itself for the earlier losses
by winning the final match at the following final set scores: 18-25, 25-23, 25-20 and 25-23.
Tolman took some time to get adjusted while Barrington was able to take the lead early on at 7-0 in the first set of the match. Once they had the lead for themselves, Barrington kept on extending their advantage.
All Tolman did in the opening set of the game was to trail behind all through. Barrington was in a very comfortable position even in the final stages of the set at 22-14. As a result, it was a fairly easy job for Barrington to secure the initial set for
themselves at 25-18.
The second set also started off with Barrington coming out strong. They were able to capitalise on the momentum built by winning the first set of the game and take the lead at 8-1. The Tigers could not restrict the Eagles from extending their advantage to
10-3. However, the Tigers did not give up and were able to pull up to 22-21. Once they had a winning chance, Tolman gave it all they had to bag the second set of the game at 25-22.
Tolman started the third set of the game brimming with confidence after having secured a win by coming from a sizeable deficit. They got the lead at the beginning and kept the pressure on Barrington for most part of the game. However, the Eagles did not
let it shatter their motivation and got into a leading position at 16-14 which they were able to extend till 19-15. But the effective defense of Tolman made them win the third set at 25-20.
The fourth set of the game was highly competitive with neither side relenting and putting on an admirable performance. But Tolman proved to be the better one as they bagged the fourth set at 25-23.
The head coach of the Tolman team, Neil Nachbar, made the following comments about the match that his team had just won, “Barrington played really well in the two matches they beat us. It was no fluke. They were the best team in the regular season. Take
nothing away from Barrington, but we felt they didn’t get our best in either one of those matches. Tonight we played at our best.”
