Tom Danielson in top form just USA Pro Cycling Challenge – Cycling News
Tom Danielson who was representing team Gamin-Cervelo in his first Tour de France, 2011 is excited about the USA Pro Cycling Challenge which is starting on August 22 and will conclude on August 28 in Colorado.
The American cyclist is not sure how his body will react as he has just returned from his first Tour de France. He finished at the ninth position after the final stage general classification of this year's Tour de France.
The event starting in August will take the cyclists through the Rocky mountainous range of Colorado. Stage 2 is considered to be the queen stage of the Tour because the 200 kilometer route from Gunnison to Aspen will test the riders as it will go across
the Cottonwood Pass and Independent Pass climbs, reaching more than 12,000 ft.
He shared his experience of riding through the Independence Pass as he mentioned that at the last six kilometres of the climb it becomes very hard and the altitude reaches 12,095 ft.
Danielson compares the route of Tour de France with USA Pro Cycling Challenge as he mentioned that the climbs in both the tours are alike as he said, “They are similar to the Tour de France climbs in terms of length and gradient.” He further added that the
Colorado climbs are similar to Galibier and Tourmalet and it will make the cyclists feel as if they are riding in the Tour de France.
The 33-year-old is excited to race in Colorado and is looking forward to win the title as he stated, “I’m very motivated for the race, just finishing my first Tour de France, I couldn’t tell you exactly how I am going to feel in the race.”
He explained his feelings on hearing about the USA Pro Cycling Challenge as, “When I heard the announcement I got so excited I always dreamed of doing a hometown race, I love it.”
Danielson was declared as the best American rider at the 2011 Tour de France and was also part of the team winning time trials at stage 2. The cyclist is hitting his best form just before his dream Tour only improves his chances of winning in front of the
home crowd.
