Tom Danielson to lead the American side, Team Garmin-Barracuda at the 17th edition of the Le Tour de Langkawi
Tom Danielson is all set to lead the American side, Team Garmin-Barracuda at the Le Tour de Langkawi scheduled from February 24th to March 4th, 2012.
The cyclist won the race back in 2003 and he is keen to repeat his previous performance at the coming edition of the race. Danielson is optimistic to open his 2012 winning account at the Malaysian race.
The American started riding professionally with Team SoBe/Headshok in 1999 and stayed with the team for a period of three years with the side.
He spent a year each with Team Mercury (2002), Team Saturn (2003) and Team Fassa Bortolo (2004).
Tom penned a three-year deal with the Discovery Channel Team in 2005 before finally signing with Jonathan Vaughters in 2008.
The 33-year-old will be leading the team of six members, Tom Danielson, Raymond Kreder, Thomas Peterson, David Zabriskie, Nathan Haas and Alex Howes.
Emir Abdul Jalal, the Chief Operating Officer for the 17th edition of the race, is looking ahead at a promising season at the biggest cycling event in Asia.
He was quoted as saying, "Danielson is now established as one of the world's best riders for stage races, we’re honoured that he remembers Malaysia where it all started for him. His strong showing here in 2003 paved the way for him to join the world's best teams".
"It's also an important sign of faith to us that Garmin-Barracuda has decided to come back this year. We were the first organizers of a UCI H.C. race to invite them when they stepped up to Pro Continental level in 2007," Emir concluded.
Both Danielson and David Zabriskie will start their 2012 racing year at the ten-day race scheduled in the last week of February.
The duo is currently training in US and will take a direct flight to Malaysia as they chose to avoid the tough training session in the chilling European weather.
Allan Peiper is the newly-appointed Team Manager and he believes that selectors have done a tremendous job in selecting a perfect team for the 2012 edition of the Le Tour de Langkawi.
He is convinced that Team Garmin, under the watchful leader of Tom, will succeed in securing the podium spot at the race.
