Tom Hardy vs. David Haye: An epic boxing event in the making – Boxing News
Rarely do we get to see boxing events that are unusually entertaining and enthralling in their own way. For long, boxers, celebrities and other athletes have been making their appearances in the World Wrestling Entertainment and UFC, but boxing was always
deprived of it. Nevertheless, the time has come for boxing fans to witness the most breathtaking event of the season, which is British actor Tom Hardy’s debut fight against former world heavyweight champion British fighter David Haye.
Although the sound of it is unrealistic, it is actually happening. After watching the Dark Knight Rises, third in the Batman franchise of Christopher Nolan, David Haye found himself in utter praise for Tom Hardy, who plays the well known fictional villain
Bane from Batman comics.
Haye was startled over seeing Hardy’s physical conditioning and development, finding it similar to that of a fighter. Later on, the Briton challenged Hardy to a boxing match. While most fans thought it would be a random challenge that would wash away with
a couple of verbal assaults, it did not. Instead, Tom Hardy accepted Haye’s challenge but asked for it to be a charity showdown.
“Hardy v Hayemaker? No problem. Let me take my make-up off first. I'll fight him as soon as I get back from the Congo with my mates if he wants. I've never fought a professional heavyweight, it'll be an experience. I would obviously prefer my first professional
fight to be against someone in my weight category but hey-ho. Let's have it. We all know how this is going to end don't we... not good for Tommy. I'll have (boxers) Clay O'Shea as trainer and Joe Calzaghe on cuts in my corner,” was Hardy’s reply to Haye.
Of course, it is pretty obvious as to what would be the end of the match but one must appreciate the guts of Hardy to accept a fight against one of the best heavyweights today.
There has not been a reply from Haye’s camp until now after Hardy accepted the challenge. Chances are that Haye would go for the show, since he still has nearly eight months before he can get his hands on Vitali Klitschko, the current WBC world heavyweight
champion, his dream opponent.
Vitali will be fighting Manuel Charr in September, and will then go for elections in November. A possible bout between Haye and Vitali can happen in May, as indicated by Vitali’s manager. Therefore, Haye has enough time to prepare for his fight against ‘Bane’
this fall.
The entire scenario was created when Haye was giving an interview to The Sun. When asked about his next opponent, Haye remarked, “Me and Tom Hardy, that would be a good fight for sure. He has got in fantastic shape — he looks like an absolute tank. He can
be my next opponent.”
It should be noted here that Tom Hardy is into mixed martial arts. In other words, he has the fighting instincts required to stand toe to toe with Haye, but not the boxing skills. In other words, Hardy is not really the boxing material but he can cope up
with it since he is physically in the shape. As Hardy puts it, he already knows what is going to happen but he will be doing it for charity purpose.
