Tom Huddlestone fancies Tottenham's chances in the Champions League
Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone has praised his teammates after their victory against Inter Milan in the Champions League, saying that anything would be possible for the team in the knock-out stages.
Harry Redknapp's team handed the Italian champions a humbling 3–1 defeat on Tuesday, 2 November, in a game that Spurs controlled from the start.
"The gaffer said before the match to get after them straight away," Huddlestone said of Redknapp's instructions prior to the Group A-encounter. "On the ball they’re exceptional players but as we showed towards the end of the last game against them, they’ve
got their weaknesses and I think we exploited them quite a lot."
Spurs, who are newcomers in the competition, now lead Inter in the group on goal difference, with seven points from four games.
The Londoners could secure their place in the round of 16 if they defeat Werder Bremen on 24 November.
"We’re top of the group but there’s still six points up for grabs and I think any team could still qualify, so it’s going to be difficult, but to be top of the group at this stage in our first season is special."
Bale the tormentor
When Huddlestone's team faced Inter at the San Siro on 20 October, Spurs conceded four goals in the first-half before left-back Gareth Bale scored three consolation goals for the team.
On Tuesday, Bale assisted two of the team's goals in another stunning display.
Huddlestone, who captained his side in both encounters in the absence of ordinary skippers Ledley King and Michael Dawson, commended Bale's strength going forward and said his own job is made easier by several of his teammates.
"You’ve got Gareth Bale on one side and Aaron Lennon on the other, and if you can’t get it wide you’ve got Rafael van der Vaart just in front of you. It makes the midfield job easy with the ball."
