Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone has undergone ankle surgery and the London club have confirmed they expect the 24-year-old to return in six weeks. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international has been sidelined since August after having suffered a nagging ankle injury and has had to go through a second operation.
This was the second surgery Huddlestone has on the same ankle in the space of just 11 months, the Spurs confirmed in an official statement. Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp confirmed last week that the midfielder required surgery, which took place yesterday, Friday.
A statement released by the club said:
“Tom Huddlestone has today (Friday) undergone a surgical procedure to his right ankle.
The midfielder will be further assessed by the specialist in six weeks' time, after which a time frame for a return to training will be determined.”
Huddlestone arrived at White Hart Lane in the summer of 2005 for a reported fee of £2.5million from Derby County. However, upon his arrival he was spent on a loan move to Wolverhampton Wanderers for the first half of the 2005-2006 season, where he made a total of 13 appearances in the league and scored one goal.
He returned to the Spurs in January of 2006, making his debut against Fulham in the English Premier League. The midfielder was awarded just a few more appearances that season, bringing up his total appearances to 4 in all competitions.
In the next season however, Huddlestone established himself as a regular in the Tottenham Hotspur squad, managing to impress then manager Martin Jol. He made 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 5 assists.
It was after the English midfielder’s successful spell at the club that he went on to commit his long term future at the club. In total he has made 171 appearances for the club, with 14 goals and 21 assists. His participation last season was highly limited due to the ankle injury, with just 19 appearances.
This season has seen Huddlestone make just one appearance for Tottenham Hotspur, but will be expected to play a more active role once he recovers from the operation. According to the club, the player will be assessed in another six weeks, after which he will most likely return to training.
