Tom Huddlestone out for three months
Tottenham Hotspur has been shattered by the news that midfielder Tom Huddlestone faces three months out of the game with an ankle injury.
Huddlestone did not play any part for the club in the weekend win over Blackburn Rovers. The club has now confirmed the midfield maestro needs surgery to correct the problem meaning an earliest return
date of mid-February.
"Following consultation with several independent ankle specialists, it has been determined that Tom Huddlestone
will undergo surgery on his right ankle," a club statement read.
The news will be a bitter blow to Spurs because Huddlestone has already made 10 appearances this season scoring one goal in the process. He will play no further part in
the club's Champions League group stage games. A vital component of the way the team has been playing has been taken away.
Fortunately the club does have cover in the midfield areas and Wilson Palacios may now be given an extended run in the team. Palacios has been kept out of the side due
to the good form of other players but can play a similar role to Huddlestone in the respect that he pressures and hustles for the ball when not in possession.
"The procedure is likely to rule the England international out of action
for around three months," the statement added.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp now has a very long list of important players out with injuries. Jermain Defoe, Michael Dawson, Jamie O'Hara and Jonathan Woodgate can play no
immediate role in the team and this latest news will place a lot of strain on the club.
Betting advice
Huddlestone is an important player for Spurs but the club can just about cope. Spurs should be fine through the rest of the Champions League group stage. Back the side
to qualify out of their group along with Inter Milan.
