Tom Huddlestone tips Tottenham to challenge for Premier League title
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone has tipped the north London side to be genuine contenders for the Premier League title this year. Spurs currently sit fifth in the table at
the moment, and Huddlestone feels the side has the quality to challenge, but suggested that more consistency will be required if the side hopes to mount an assault on the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
"If we can be a bit more consistent, because we've dropped a few sloppy points, then why not? Title contenders? That's a big statement to make, but the way the season is going, everybody
keeps taking points off each other. If you're up there March, April time, you've got a great chance."
Few would argue that the Spurs side doesn’t have enough quality or strength to challenge for major honours, but as Huddlestone rightly assesses, the team’s inconsistency is costing them
too many points to keep up with league leaders Chelsea. Saturday’s excellent win at Craven Cottage, in which Huddlestone himself scored the winner, was wasted, due to a previous loss at home to Wigan.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has certainly assembled a talented squad at White Hart Lane since his arrival. His onus has always been on playing attractive, attacking football. Often regarded
as too immobile to occupy a place in the central midfield areas, he has proved his critics wrong in the last season or so, with his sparkling array of passing, defensive tactics and shooting qualities making him a mainstay in the Spurs side.
It’s difficult to see this Spurs team going on to challenge for the league title this year, but they are looking increasingly likely to secure a second successive top four spot, which
was their original objective before the season started.
