Tom Johnson and Haydn Thomas extend Exeter Chiefs contracts
Tom Johnson and Haydn Thomas have committed their future to the Exeter Chiefs, as both players signed contract extensions with the Aviva Premiership club.
Johnson’s deal ties the flanker to the club for another two years, and Exeter will be delighted that they have managed to retain the services of the 28-year-old who has become an important first team player.
The forward has started nine games so far this season and has become a key player in the forward pack.
Thomas has also committed his future to Sandy Park for three more years. The 28-year-old scrum-half has been a crucial player in the Chiefs promising start to the season.
Head coach Rob Baxter said, "This is very positive news for the club that we have already got players prepared to commit over the long term. Both Tom and Haydn have played a big part in what we have done this season."
The Chiefs have adapted well to life in the Aviva Premiership. They have picked up 14 points from seven games and have already recorded wins over the likes of Saracens and Wasps this season.
Baxter will be delighted that the players have signed new deals with the club and the news should give the squad a lift as they prepare to take on Leeds Carnegie, who are bottom of the league.
By extending deals for Thomas and Johnson, Baxter will have players that are capable of ensuring the Chiefs remain in the Aviva Premiership for a long time.
"It is decisions like this that demonstrate players want to buy into what we are trying to achieve here. I'm delighted that both the guys are willing to be part of what we want to achieve in the long term."
