Tom King grabs leading spot on Day 3: 2012 Etchells World Championship at Sydney Heads
At the end of third day’s proceedings, the former Etchells World Championship winner, Tom King grabbed the overall lead of the event fleet.
King, along with his crew members comprising of Owen McMahon, David Edwards and Ivan Wheen, showed a tremendous sailing genius and proved their class clinching the leading spot by 13 points after sailing in four races.
The wind conditions offshore of Sydney Heads were moderate on the third day where King stamped his name on top of the standings. King has won the event once before in September 2000 and knows the taste of clinching the title. The leader of the score line
believes that he can continue his dominance on the fleet in the coming races.
King and his crew put up consistent performance from Day 1. They clinched two second places, a third and a lowest six to compile 13 points in the end. However, the Aussie crew has to pull up their socks in the upcoming days and must hit top spots in the
remaining races so that they could not be challenged by any other team in the fleet.
Jud Smith from Australia also had some convincing score on the tour and managed to win the second position with 26 points. Third place in the regatta was taken by Graeme Taylor of Australia by earning 27 sailing points in four races.
