Tom King retains lead on Day 4 at Sydney Heads: 2012 Etchells World Championship
Fourth day of the 2012 Etchells World Championship began with a sunny summer day under lighter winds blowing north westerly on the Sydney Heads waters.
Only one race could be commenced on the fourth day at the Etchells Worlds which was won by Australia’s David Clark. However, despite clinching the second spot in Race 5, the fleet leader, Tom King was able to retain the overall lead with 15 points.
The racecourse had to be reset according to the wind speed because the weather conditions were lighter than normal. The breeze was gusting around eight knots which was not enough and the Principal Race officer, Ross Wilson and his Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron
had to set the course to windward-leeward direction to commence the fourth day proceedings.
After the windward-leeward course was set, the winds became a bit stronger and started wafting up to 10 knots over the racing area.
Winner of the 2012 Etchells Pre-World Championship, David Clark on his boat Fifteen grabbed an early lead nudging down the fleet leader, King on his Iron Lotus and Vince Burn on Manace down on second and third position. Clark retained his lead until the
finish line and clinched the top spot while King remained on second position. Burn tumbled down during the race and was replaced by John Bertrand for third position.
