Tom Kite-Gil Morgan, Garry Hallberg-Ted Schulz share lead in Mutual Legends of Golf – Champions Tour
The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf started yesterday at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort in Georgia. The event, which features the legends of golf, produced some great results after the first round.
It was the pair of Tom Kite and Gil Morgan, carded a great round of ten-under par, 62.
Kite and Morgan share the lead with Gary Hallberg and Ted Schulz. Both these two pairs share the lead and are at 10-under respectively.
The pair of Kite and Morgan simply complimented each other. Their scorecard had ten birdies and did not make a single bogey during their round. They were simply amazing as they had seven birdies in first-nine.
This was an amazing display of golf from both the veterans.
Kite and Morgan are both experienced players and have been playing since a long time. Both these players showed their class on the field. It looked like the veteran Kite is back in form. Kite, 61 still
looked dominant on the course, as he did not wary of the players around him. He was just busy in making birdies with his partner Morgan.
Morgan graduated from the Southern College of Optometry and has a doctorate degree.
As for the pair of Hallberg and Schulz, they were also bogey free for the day. They also had a total of ten birdies among them. Both these senior players have a total of five victories on PGA Tour among
them. They also carved their way on the leader board by making six birdies on the back-nine. It looked like they both challenged each other. Hallberg made a birdie then Schulz on the next hole. This was the situation on the back-nine.
These two pairs lead the field by a margin of just one shot. The leader board on the first was crowded as the course conditions were easy for players.
Kite after the round said, "Doc putted brilliantly today. I had a few balls inside his, but he made those putts and we didn't need mine.” “I think we only made one mistake," Morgan said. "We didn't birdie
the (par-5) 11th like we probably should have."
Putting was the main factor and the key as these top pairs on the leader board made birdies. Some of the putts were long ones which rolled inside the hole.
Four pairs are tied for the third spot. Scott Hoch and Kenny Perry, Larry Mize and Hal Sutton, Michael Allen and David Frost, Peter Senior and Sandy Lyle, all are placed on stroke behind the leading pair.
These four pairs managed a round of nine-under par, 63 on the first day.
The defending champion pair of Mark O’Meara and Nick Price managed their own way. They were bogey free for the day and managed to put up a round of eight-under par, 64. This pair is tied for the seventh
spot on the score board.
The second round of this legends golf championship will commence from today. All these pairs within the a few strokes will be hoping to cope up with the leaders.
