Tom Lehman eyes another victory at the MCB Tour Championship
Tom Lehman has set his sights on successfully defending his title at the MCB Tour Championship, when he tees off this week at the Legend Course at Constance Belle Mare Plage.
The tournament will be played from December 7 to 9, 2012, featuring some of the prominent names on the European Seniors Tour.
Last year, the American sealed an impressive victory, after posting rounds of 65, 68 and 71, to outshine David Frost with a one-stroke margin.
This week, he plans to repeat the heroics of his last year’s performance, in a bid to retain the prestigious trophy on his shelf.
The 53-year-old veteran is currently enjoying a great run of form, having won the US Champions Tour’s season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
The victory also secured him the Charles Schwab Cup, for the second consecutive time in his career. This week, he wishes to finish the 2012 European Seniors Tour in a similar fashion, by winning the MCB Tour Championship.
“It was a special win for me last year,” he said. “When you come to somewhere like Mauritius and they make you feel so welcome you feel a sense of urgency to play well to say ‘thank you’”.
He added, “I had a great desire to play the best I could to say thank you to everyone. But on top of that, to play in the Senior Tour’s Tour Championship against so many great players, so many friends, and to win really meant a lot”.
Talking about the field, he stated that it will be a tough job to beat some of the best players, who have confirmed to participate in this year’s edition of the tournament.
“Guys like David Frost and Barry Lane and Peter Fowler will be tough to beat,” he said.
He also said that Tim Thelen can also be a strong contender in Mauritius, because of his recent form on the tour.
Recently, Thelen recorded his third victory of the Seniors Tour season, by winning the Fubon Senior Open. The win also moved him to the third place in the Seniors Tour Order of Merit.
He is currently regarded as one of the strongest contenders for a win this week.
