Tom Lewis ready for another European Tour victory at Madeira Islands Open
Tom Lewis of England is relishing the opportunity of making his debut in the Madeira Islands Open, and is confident to make a strong comeback after missing cuts in each of the last three tournaments he played on the European Tour.
The Madeira Islands Open will be staged at the Clube de Golf do Santo da Serra, featuring some of the best players from different parts of the world, vying for a share of €600,000 prize fund.
In 2011, the English youngster turned professional and recorded his maiden professional victory during his rookie season on the European Tour, when he stunned his opponents at the Portugal Masters.
This week, he is back to the same soil that witnessed him proving his mettle on the bigger scene. Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he expressed his pleasure in making his appearance in one of the biggest tournaments in Portugal.
“It’s my first time here and it’s a really nice place,” said the 2011 Walker Cup winner. “My family are out and it’s a lovely place to come so I'm looking forward to it and hopefully the weather will hold out for the week”.
“A lot of players have had success in certain areas and I love Europe, personally. There are a lot of different culture changes in certain tournaments on The European Tour but in Europe the atmosphere is great, especially in places like Portugal – you get
really nice people and lovely food and I feel comfortable with everything,” he added.
In the meantime, he also expressed his disappointment in not performing well in the past few weeks. According to him, the main reason behind his failure in the tournaments in lack of consistency in his game.
Most of the times, he manages to score well in the first two rounds. However, the pressure of the last two rounds does not allow him to record a good finish in the tournaments he participates in.
He now believes that the playing conditions in Portugal suit his style of playing, and is confident to turn the tables in his favour this time.
