Tom Maynard shines as Surrey rout Essex by 43 runs: Friends Life Twenty20
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Monday, June 13, 2011.
None of the batsmen from either team managed to take his score past fifty, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-Lloyd-Maynard-c93631 top scored the match with 45 runs. His effort guided the home team’s total to 154 in their allotted 20 overs whereas the Essex team was bundled up for 111 in 17.3
overs.
The hosts won the toss and decided to bat first, as the pitch was good for batting in the first half of the game. The decision proved to be a very good one, as batting became tougher once the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 batsmen came out.
Surrey’s openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rory-James-Hamilton-Brown-c86829 were unable to give a solid start to their side. Davies was the first man to be dismissed in the opening over of the match. He failed to trouble the scorers and was followed by his opening partner, who
got out for one.
The innings was then stabilised by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jason-Jonathan-Roy-c1666 and Maynard, who put together 35 runs for the third wicket partnership.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 played aggressive cricket, but was unable to capitalise on the start he got to his innings. He was sent back to the pavilion after adding 31 runs to the total from just 20 deliveries, striking five fours and one six.
The hosts were struggling at 47 for three at that stage, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zander-de-Bruyn-c98565 gave good support to Maynard, as the pair collected 58 runs for the fourth wicket partnership. The latter got out after scoring 45 runs off 37 balls, with the help of two fours
and one towering six.
De Bruyn was dismissed after adding 28 runs to the total from 23 deliveries and an unbeaten cameo of 30 runs off 18 balls from Zafar Ansari guided the team’s total above 150.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Richard-Napier-c60628 bowled well for the visitors, picking up two wickets in the match.
In reply, the Essex batsmen failed to get going and wickets kept on falling at regular intervals. The team lost five wickets for just 59 runs on the board and it appeared as if they would be dismissed within a 100 runs.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Jack-Wheater-c41912 offered some resistance, scoring 31 and 29 in their respective knocks. Their effort went in vain though, as all batsmen were sent back to the hut for 111.
Pakistan’s all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Arafat-c98241, bowled with terrific control, taking three wickets for just 15 runs in his three-over spell. He got good support from de Bruyn, who picked up a couple of wickets as well.
