Tom http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Premier League, has lauded the courageous efforts of Yuvraj Singh, following the Indian all-rounder’s recovery from cancer and subsequent efforts to make a comeback
to cricket.
“I remember Simon O'Donnell being struck with cancer during Australia's 1987 World Cup campaign,” Moody said during an interview with Wisden http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, comparing Yuvraj to his former teammate. “I know very well what it is like to have a teammate who has been
struck with a potentially fatal disease.
“He fought through, managed to get himself back to 100% fitness and back to playing again. To see Yuvraj do the same is such a great inspiration to not just cricketers, but everyone.”
Yuvraj, who worked with Moody during his stint with Indian Premier League franchise Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833, suffered bouts of illness during India’s 2011 World Cup triumph (including nausea and breathing difficulties, in addition to coughing up blood) which were
later diagnosed as a rare form of germ cell cancer known as mediastinal seminoma.
The 30-year-old, who had been named the Player of the Tournament during the 2011 World Cup, flew to the United States in January this year to receive treatment for the tumour located in between his lungs, for which he underwent 3 sessions of chemotherapy.
A return to India in April 2012, post-treatment, was followed by the inevitable questions surrounding his return to the sport.
Still recovering from the after-effects of the treatment, Yuvraj appeared hesitant regarding a comeback, stressing that he aimed to focus on his fitness and well-being first, in order to ensure a full recovery. However, he started expressing an interest
in returning to the cricket field, initially claiming that he wished to ease back into the sport via domestic tournaments.
Although the particular plan did not work out, the star all-rounder began fitness training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore during June in a bid to make a return to the national squad.
He expressed an interest in playing the upcoming 2-match T20 series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka this September, and his hard work was rewarded when the selectors named him in the 15-man squads for both tournaments,
following an examination of his fitness reports from the NCA.
