Tom Sawyer to be the one to beat in BJS Handicap
A total of 22 runners have gathered around for competing in the BJS Handicap at Doncaster in England on Wednesday, September 12, 2012. None of them is in a dominant position at the moment, which will make things quite interesting at the end of the day.
Looking at the performances of all the stallions, it appears that a few of them have been doing a decent job in recent times, but they too lack consistency, which will make it hard for the punters to choose their favourite.
The going has been described as good to firm in the 5 furlong event and the winner will be awarded a cash prize of £6,469 in the end. Looking at the overall distance to cover, it is clear that the start will be highly important. The ones who struggle in the beginning will most probably run out of time to make a comeback.
An upset can be expected in the class-4 event, which is scheduled to kick off at 17:15 GMT. One of the runners, who have been delivering good results with consistency, is Jack Luey. He has been performing well this year, but has not managed to win any event. He finished third in his previous six races and will need a strong effort in order to break the shackles.
However, it will take a special effort to beat Tom Sawyer, who is carrying the winning momentum right now. He has been priced 9 to 1 by the bookies, which shows that he too is not expected to walk away with a comfortable win, but he sure is in a good position compared to most of his opponents.
The four-year-old gelding has participated in 19 events, winning three of them whereas finished as a runner up on the same number of times. In addition to that, he secured the third spot once, which proves that he is quite capable of giving a tough time to his rivals at this level.
Out of his three victories, two have come this year. This is an encouraging sign for the Julie Camacho’s trainee and his fans will be expecting him to add some more to that tally by the end of this year. His most recent success came under jockey, Graham Lee, who will once again be accompanying him today.
