Tom Shaw wins second career bout against Kristian Laight at Deeside Leisure Centre – Boxing news
The British national Tom Shaw won his second ever bout fighting against Kristian Laight on Friday, May 20, 2011 at the Deeside Leisure Centre in Wales, England.
Everyone would term it a punch-perfect start for Shaw to his professional boxing career.
The 20-year-old’s first fight was against Danny Dontchev on March 26, 2011 at the Robin Park Centre in Lancashire which he won based on points.
The referee gave the decision in favour of Shaw by scoring the fight as 40-36. He scored in every round which means he is progressing well in his boxing career.
Laight, who has not been so impressive since his debut in 2006, has the abilities and skills to cause an upset. He has fought a total of 106 fights of which he won just 6 and lost 94 while drew the remaining 6.
The Shaw vs. Laight matchup was arranged and promoted by boxing legend Ricky Hatton. Shaw will be fighting for his third competitive bout probably in Bury on Saturday, July 23, 2011 but the fighter has not been finalised yet.
However, whoever is his next possible opponent, Shaw’s manager Errol Johnson is very confident and convinced that he has all the abilities and skills to compete at the championship level.
Johnson said, “Tom still has a lot to learn. He switched off a bit too often on Friday night, but when he put his punches together, he showed how special he can be.”
He further added, “Laight is in there to frustrate, spoil and nick the fight on points if he can. Tom stayed in charge and didn’t let him mess him about. I was pleased with him, but there’s still room for improvement.”
Shaw is being trained under the useful guidelines of Johnson. He has improved a lot during his practice session at the Wednesbury gym. It can be easily observed from his recent performance against Dontchev. Let’s see how the upcoming bout transpires.
