Tom Shields snares Men’s 100m butterfly title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Tom Shields of USA snared gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Sunday, October 21.
Shields showed no mercy to his opponents in the butterfly discipline and outperformed his challengers over the finishing end for gold medal. He experienced strong competition from Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia from the start but with his persistent efforts,
Shields managed to edge him out over the wall for title.
He stayed only a touch ahead of his toughest contender and surfaced on the finishing wall for gold medal with a wonderful effort of 50.03 seconds.
He was chased by Korotyshkin, who stayed 0.11 seconds slower and tapped the wall for silver medal with a nice time of 50.14 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Nikolay Skvortsov of Russia, who stayed more than a half body length behind and transpired on the finishing end for bronze medal by submitting a time of 50.89 seconds.
Skvortsov was traced by Joeri Verlinden of Netherlands, who remained 0.43 seconds apart and emerged on the wall as fourth position holder by reporting a time of 51.32 seconds.
Fifth spot of the race was obtained by Steffen Deibler, who stayed 0.69 seconds slower from overpowering his foregoing finisher and ended his race in a time of 52.01 seconds.
Deibler was chased by Francois Heersbrandt of Belgium, who stayed 0.35 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 52.36 seconds for sixth position.
Heersbrandt faced strong contest from Matteo Rivolta of Italy, but managed to surpass him over the finishing end. Subsequently, Rivolta stayed 0.11 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and made his way to the finishing wall for seventh place by clocking
a time of 52.47 seconds.
Eighth spot of the race was secured by Emmanuel Vanluchene of Belgium, who was only 0.13 seconds behind and posted an effort of 52.60 seconds.
In addition, Shields was delighted with his victory in the butterfly discipline and articulated that he would continue his hard work to achieve the same in future endeavours.
