Tom Sykes of Kawasaki Racing Team sidelined while Joan Lascorz crashes at Silverstone – WSBK news
Kawasaki Racing team riders’ duo Tom Sykes and Joan Lascorz faced a difficult race weekend at the Silverstone World Superbike Championship event.
Sykes retired out of race after a severe crash during a practice session, sustaining injuries on his ankle. After all the effort, he would have been able to start the race from 16th position, which could have intensified the damage on his ankle.
Therefore, the team decided to rest him for the British WSBK event.
Sykes said, “I woke up feeling like I had been run over by a bus and because we do not want to cause any further potential damage to my ankle we decided not to race. I also have a lot of pain and stiffness in my neck, back and shoulders.”
Considering the grid position, Sykes had to work very hard to score a good position in the race. He added that further injury details will be revealed after a medical check up.
The Spanish rider at the Kawasaki team was 19th on the starting grid and after an effort, he made up to seventh place in the first race. Meanwhile in the second race he was devastated by a crash and decided to call it a day.
Lascorz said, “We had one good result and one unlucky one but my bike felt even better in the second race than the first one. It was unfortunate that James Toseland collided with me because his foot peg went into a water hose on my bike and it ran the cooling
system dry which meant I could not finish.”
The Spaniard hoped to get a sixth place finish if he had not crashed in the second race. As he finished seventh in race one from a 19th position start it was a great finish from far back on grid.
The team and the rider are focused to improve the qualifying pace but a seventh place finish is good to assess race pace and work in order to improve.
