Tom Sykes reveals he might continue with Kawasaki factory team in the championship – WSBK news
Kawasaki Racing Team rider Tom Sykes has revealed his stance over the latest decision made by his team.
The expressions were shared on behalf of Tom Sykes as the spokesperson clarified some of the pending issues. The statement was made shortly after Sykes took his first victory at Nurburgring for the Kawasaki team after five years of Chris Walker’s win.
He said, “Tom remains a fully committed Paul Bird Motorsport (PBM) team rider and will continue to do so for the duration of his current contract. For the remainder of the season Tom's primary focus is to produce the best possible results for PBM and Kawasaki,
as his recent win at the Nurburgring would confirm.”
The Japanese manufacturer has decided to end the contract with Paul Bird Motorsport by the end of the 2011 season. It has been one of the most shocking news in the 2011 WSBK season. Earlier, the Yamaha factory team also decided to withdraw from the WSBK
series by the end of 2011.
Since the shocking news of Yamaha, the Kawasaki team has also taken a decision to closely watch its operations in the series. It is also to enhance its ZX-10R’s image in the competition and regulate the works in the revised budget.
The negotiation between Sykes and Kawasaki was confirmed and he said, “It is clear from Tom and also Kawasaki that there is a strong desire from both parties for there to be an ongoing relationship that can reap the full benefits of the work done to date.
Discussions regarding this matter are in progress at this time.”
After the British rider has sorted out his plans, the next step will be revealed by Sykes. For the time being, he will be riding in the WSBK series under the contract with PBM. He will continue representing his team and the sponsors for the project along
Kawasaki.
On the other hand, Kawasaki will appoint a new team for its operations in the 2012 WSBK season. Few names being considered are Team Pedercini and MSS Colchester but the Provec Motocard.com is the most likely one to take the position.
