Bulls team chairman is talking to Thibodeau regarding the much awaited contract extension .....
According to reports, Chicago Bulls head coach, Tom Thibodeau, who is in his last year of contract, has restarted negotiations with the team management for an extension. Jerry Reinsdorf, the team chairman, is reported to be carrying out the negotiations with Thibodeau which will most probably result in the head coach signing an extended contract with the team.
Thibodeau was hired by the Bulls at the beginning of the 2010-2011 NBA season, after they parted ways with former head coach Vinny Del Negro. Thibodeau had worked as an assistant coach and defensive specialist under Doc Rivers for the Boston Celtics before that, and the Bulls gig was his first as a head coach.
Thibs however did not disappoint the Bulls franchise or the fans at all, and in his first season with the team, led the team to the best record in the league. Thibodeau also worked closely with All Star point guard Derrick Rose, resulting in Rose being named the regular season MVP for that season, the youngest player ever to win the coveted award.
Thibodeau led the Bulls to the best record in the league once again last season, and has a record of 112-36 since he has taken over as the coach of the Bulls. Thibodeau is credited with taking a roster of veteran role players and an All Star point guard, and putting the pieces together to put forward a well knit team with excellent chemistry. He is famous for being a tough coach, and makes his players work out extremely hard.
Thibodeau is a defensive specialist, and the main reason why the Bulls were the best defensive and best rebounding team in the league this past season. He is also credited with assembling a great bench roster for the Bulls, and using them effectively at critical points in the game. The Bulls bench came to be known as “the bench mob” last season, due to their effectiveness.
Despite all his achievement is a short span of time, Thibodeau is yet to receive a contract extension offer from the Bulls management. The Bulls picked up their option on the third and final year of his contract a few months ago, which will see him coach through next season. Talks for a contract extension began in the summer, but were postponed later on.
Many coaches in the NBA have come out in support of Thibodeau, including Doc Rivers. They have said that it is a disgrace that Thibodeau is still without an extended contract. Thibodeau was named coach of the year in the 2010-2011 season, and finished second behind Gregg Popovich last season for the same award.
