Tom Thibodeau says Derrick Rose ‘doing great’ in recovery process – NBA News
Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau was on “The Waddle and Silvy show” on ESPN 1000 on Friday and when asked about a question regarding Derrick Rose’s rehab, said that Rose is “doing great”. Rose is recovering from what was a season
ending torn ACL injury.
"He has a great support system. His family is fantastic. They've been great with him. He comes in every day. He's diligent. He's moving along well” said Thibodeau on the show.
Rose suffered the injury in game 1 of the Bulls 1st round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bulls won the game but lost Rose for the season as diagnosis revealed that he required surgery.
In his absence, the Bulls lost in the first round to the Philadelphia 76ers. Rose was operated upon on May 12 and is expected to take 8 to 12 months to be able to come back onto the basketball court.
Thibodeau said that he talks to Rose every day.
“I think he understands what he has to go through, and he's approaching it like he does everything else. His rehabs are his games and practices right now” said Thibodeau.
Rose suffered six different injuries in a testing season for him, reducing him to playing only 39 games in the 66 game compressed and lockout shortened regular season.
Luol Deng, the forward of the Chicago Bulls has also been battling with torn ligaments in his left wrist and played for much of the season with the injury. He might need to get his wrist operated upon to repair the ligaments, but
will do so after he returns from the Summer Olympics in London where he is looking forward to representing his home country of the United Kingdom.
Thibodeau said that Bulls General Manager Gar Forman and Vice President of Basketball Operations Jon Paxson met with Deng to discuss his future plans.
"We certainly care a lot about Luol and how he feels. We just want to make sure from a health standpoint that he's good with everything. I think they had a very good meeting, and I think everything will be fine” said Thibodeau.
The coach might be looking at opening the next season without both Rose and Deng. He will probably not have Rose back in action till atleast the midway in the season. But as always, Thibodeau said that he will use what is available
to him and will try to play to the strengths of the team and hide the weaknesses.
The Bulls have exercised their option of the third year on Thibodeau’s contract and it is likely that they will sign him for the long term as well. Thibodeau was coach of the year last year and finished 2nd behind San
Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich this year.
