Tom Thibodeau wants us to take it up a notch: Kyle Korver – NBA Update
Chicago Bulls reserve Kyle Korver revealed in a recent interview exactly what head coach Tom Thibodeau wants from the team next season; work even harder. Thibodeau is known for his stringent and demanding work ethic and Korver
revealed that the coach was determined to get even more out of the Chicago players next season, whenever that maybe.
At the moment the league has locked the players out. They cannot talk to any official of the franchise they are contracted to. The coaches can’t even talk about the players in public, but there is no such restriction on the players.
Korver and the Bulls were briefed by Tom Thibodeau of his expectations from the group next season and the player revealed the plans in a recent interview.
"He basically said that we've got to bring more than we brought last year," Korver said. "We got a taste of what it can be ... We got a lot of young guys who can keep getting better. And that's basically what he was preaching.
He wants us to do a lot of the same of what we did last year, just do it better. Coming into camp in great shape is going to be a really good thing. There's a lockout, there's going to be a lot of downtime. Don't let yourself slide. And whenever the time comes,
be ready to go."
This would come as no surprise to anyone who has followed Tom Thibodeau over the last couple of years. He was the assistant coach at the Boston Celtics two years ago and the right hand man of Celtics head coach Doc Rivers. Tom’s
influence on the mighty Celtics side, especially on the defensive end, is believed to have been immense.
His growing reputation turned the head of Chicago Bulls executives last summer and he was promptly installed as head coach of the franchise. Upon his arrival Thibodeau made clear that his side would be defence oriented and he would
require 110 percent from all his players. The Bulls, led by point guard Derrick Rose, completely bought into his philosophy and the results were astonishing.
The average Chicago side was transformed under Tom. They played extremely hard, they worked for each other and they stifled teams through defence. Moreover, Derrick Rose emerged as a superb player in his new role and mesmerised
onlookers throughout the NBA. He won the regular season MVP award for his troubles and the Bulls finished with the best record in the league.
Tom himself was named as the NBA’s Coach of the Year and the wily tactician is looking to do even better whenever the NBA 2011-2012 season starts.
