Tom Zbikowski puts boxing on hold to focus more on National Football League – Boxing news
Baltimore Ravens safety in the National Football League and occasional professional boxer, Thomas Michael Zbikowski has now decided to put boxing on hold in order to concentrate on the NFL.
He has been a fabulous performer for his college’s football team playing for his university Notre Dame for four years from 2003 to 2007.
No doubt, the rising labour issues have hampered the NFL, but Zbikowski said he made the decision two weeks ago to join the training camp again for better preparations in July and August.
Zbikowski spoke to the press and said, “I accomplished what I needed to accomplish and saw where I was in the boxing ring. I wasn't going to be world champion in a year.”
Zbikowski has made it clear to public that he was never up for the efforts to become a boxing champion. However, he displayed extraordinary boxing skills and capabilities to take up a career in boxing.
Zbikowski has now withdrawn his interest from the June 4, 2011 fight. The fight was planned to take place at the Staples Centre in Los Angles, United States.
The 26 year-old Zbikowski said, “I’d like to play football as long as I can, but I still believe I'll box after I'm done football.”
The lawyer of Zbikowski, Mike Joyce said that the reason of staying active in football is that Zbikowski could not predict the future of a football player and because of joining two sports, he was continuously facing problems. He also said Zbikowski thought
one can be a part-time boxer but could not be a part-time football player.
Zbikowski said he will not move from Chicago until the labour issues are resolved. Afterwards he will take the final decision about staying active in boxing.
As far as Tom Zbikowski’s professional boxing career is concerned, he has fought 4 fights out of which he has won all four against the world’s best cruiserweights.
The American national boxer, Zbikowski’s first ever fight of his boxing career was against Robert Bell on June 10, 2006 at the Madison Square Garden in New York. In his second professional bout, Zbikowski scored the second technical knockout decision fighting
against Richard Bryant in March 2011 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, United States. He won the third bout by scoring unanimous decision over Caleb Grummet in the same month.
In his last fight, Zbikowski scored the third technical knockout decision when he went against Blake Warner on April 23, 2011 at the Win Star Casino in Oklahoma.
