Tom tom gps unit?

I'm thinking about getting a GPS system (tomtom), but I wanna know if you have to have a cell phone company or you have to have 'service' from anyone for it to work. please help!

No the GPS works by itself. Turn it on and go.

They work independently, but be wary, when programming a route, you might find yourself where you don't want to be. Try and use it with a little local map knowledge. I use them all the time, and have come across these problems often.

There is no cell phone service required.  Most if not all GPS units now work directly off the Satellites.  Thus no monthly service charges or anything of that nature just make sure it has a straight view of the sky (Antenna).
