Tom tom not reading memory card, can anybody help?

Question

when i switch on my tom tom, it starts up but then shows a red cross through the memory card and cannot read any further,

has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to fix it?

Have you tried formatting you card ?

That worked for a friend of mine with the same problem.

And clearing the flash of the tom tom it self worked for my dad's, again with the same problem.

I know the flash tool is for map activation but it worked all the same.
