Tomahawks confirm their berth at Rugby League World Cup 2013
The United States Tomahawks have confirmed their berth in 2013 World Cup of Rugby League by winning a massive 40-4 victory over South Africa in the inaugural game of the Atlantic Zone qualifying series which had been staged in Philadelphia, on Sunday, October
16.
The United States dominated from the very beginning of the match and stretched out their lead unanswered until the end of the first half, with the half-time score at 24-0.
Tomahawks had a series of five tries scored from the first half to give them a large lead. Two tries each came from Sean Taylor and Curtis Cunz, where as the rest were scored by Mark Cantoni, Sione Taufa, Danny Howard and Mitchell Stevens.
A major highlight of the clash was a set of four goals that were booted successfully out of a total of eight attempts made by Joseph Paulo. His performance was nonetheless commendable and a good chunk of the overall score goes to his credit.
Meanwhile the opponents had trailed at an embarrassing 40-0 until the conclusion of the fixture, when a late try from Rhinos’ winger, Johan Fritz, managed to open their account.
While talking about the match, the head coach of Tomahawks, Matthew Elliot, said, "We're very satisfied obviously with the result coming off a very short preparation.”
With the impressive results by the American side, they have managed to book their spot in the Rugby League World Cup 2013, which is indeed a great leap for them.
South Africa will be seen again in contention against the Jamaican side, who will meet Tomahawks in the final showdown next Sunday.
Tomahawks have already proved themselves a pretty tough side to beat which is apparent from the recent results. Their side is not only strong in their defence but they also have key players who contribute to the score board with their try scoring. If they
continue to exhibit the form similar to today’s , they will surely have a long successful stint.
