Tomas Berdych, Michael Llodra through to the fourth round – Wimbledon Championships 2011
World number seven, Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic, continued his error-free run at the Wimbledon Championships and defeated Alex Bogomolov of the United States in the third round of the competition on Saturday.
The sixth seed Czech took down his opponent comprehensively in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3, taking one hour and forty three minutes of play to book a place in the fourth round of the Grand Slam tournament being played at the All
England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, England.
It was a pretty one-sided contest, with Berdych cruising through the sets without much trouble from the American competitor. Despite of a par first serve accuracy of 52 per cent, the Czech clinched 32 out of 36 points on it and
registered five out of nine serve breaks to dispose of Bogomolov from Wimbledon. His 36 winners were replied with just 12 from the American rival, who badly failed to craft any break opportunity in the entire matchup.
16 aces from the racquet of Berdych earned him the extra advantage in the game and he raced through the game quickly to wrap up the opening three sets of the contest. Berdych faced no real challenge from Bogomolov in the whole
matchup and finished the contest in the third set to book a date with the other American, the 10th seed Mardy Fish, for a place in the quarter-finals. Fish defeated Robin Haase of Netherlands to reach the fourth round of the tournament.
19th seed, Michael Llodra of France, also made it to the fourth round of Wimbledon after defeating Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei in the other match of Saturday afternoon. The Frenchman wrapped up the contest in straight
sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-1, taking just one hour and forty three minutes to clear the third round with ease.
Llodra proved his brilliance in every segment of the game, delivering 70 percent serve on target and cracking 19 aces in the contest to come out as the winner. He converted five of his 12 break opportunities in the contest, whereas
Lu failed to break his opponent’s serve even once in the entire matchup.
Lu hung in the opening two sets for a while before dropping both of them but appeared in a state of total confusion in the third set, holding serve in just one game before letting Llodra away with victory at 6-1.
The Frenchman will take on the world number two, Novak Djokovic in the fourth round for a place in the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam tournament. The second seeded Djokovic ousted Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4,
