World number nine, Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic, has showed his commitment to take part in the third edition of Malaysian Open, to be played in Kuala Lumpur next month. The exciting competition will be staged at Putra Stadium,
Bukit Jalil, from 24th of September to 2nd of October.
The third edition of Malaysian Open is a part of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 and presents an exciting field of top class players, as well as the upcoming new talent. Leading the field at Kuala Lumpur
is the world number nine, Berdych, followed by the 11th ranked Spaniard, Nicolas Almagro. The Spaniard is taking part in the Malaysian Open for the first time in his career and is anticipated as one of the hot favourites to take the championship
title.
The tournament will feature a total of six top-20 tennis stars including Berdych and Almagro. The other big names in the event are 16th ranked Viktor Troicki of Serbia, 17th ranked Mikhail Youzhny of Russia,
world number 18 Jurgen Melzer of Austria and 20th ranked Serbian, Janko Tipsarevic. The rising star of the year and Canada’s number one tennis player, world number 28, Milos Raonic and former world number three, Nikolay Davydenko of Russia are also
a part of the exciting field at Malaysian Open.
“The entire tournament is delighted to welcome to KL such a nice mix of fresh faces and old friends. Additionally, there is a wonderful blend of established names and future marquee names that are readily nipping at the heels of
those at the highest echelons of the ATP World Tour rankings,” expressed the tournament director, Nick Freyer.
Being the top seed in the tournament at Kuala Lumpur, Berdych is deemed to be the hot favourite for winning the championship and extend his title count beyond five.. The Czech has been among the most consistent tennis players in
the running year so far and has reached the quarter-finals or better at 12 out of the 16 tournaments he took part in.
“It’s great to have been so consistent as I wanted to do that before the season started,” Berdych said. “I’m looking forward to trying to go further the rest of the year, but so far, the season has been solid.”
Almagro is the other strong candidate for the tournament and his currently having his best form ever. It is hoped with a variety of quality tennis players around, the contests at Malaysian Open will provide enthralling action for
the tennis fans all around the world.
