Tomas Berdych believes that Davis Cup 2012 was one of his greatest achievements – Tennis News
Ranked sixth in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Tomas Berdych, is one of the top contenders these days and said that winning Davis Cup 2012 for his country is one of his biggest achievement last year.
In an interview with the media Berdych said, “My career is moving in a good direction. I have managed to achieve the targets I set for myself. But I want to improve further in the next few years and move up in the rankings. My
only strategy was to play consistently throughout the year. I was able to do so for a major part of the season, except for the bad form I had during the summer. We worked really hard for that moment. Moreover, we are the only country to win Hopman Cup, Fed
Cup and Davis Cup in one year, so it becomes even more special!”
The 27-year-old Czech professional is one of the greatest challengers and played a critical role in helping Czech Republic win their second Davis Cup title last month. He is an extremely dedicated player, struggling hard to bag
home great laurels. He has worked hard and has journeyed a long way to triumph in the coveted team event.
The right-hander contender had a remarkable performance successfully penning down great success at the start of 2012. Berdych was the finalist of the Hopman Cup held in the indoor hard courts of Perth, Australia. At the AAMI Classic
held at Kooyong, he encountered an unexpected three-sets shocker at the hands of the American senior, Andy Roddick.
The Czech number one contested until the quarter-finals of the Australian Open at the Melbourne Park. After a tough contest, he was defeated the former world number one, Rafael Nadal. He manifested remarkable improvement at the
Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open but was unable to face the might of the Swiss veteran, Roger Federer, in the title match.
He encountered an unexpected loss at the hands of Ernests Gulbis in the Wimbledon Championships in the first round. At the hard courts of New York, he was paired against the higher ranked British number one, Andy Murray and after
a tough five-set match, he pocketed away his loss. Berdych is an asset for his people, contended with his performance and aims to make an emphatic start next year.
