Tomas Berdych dumps Kevin Anderson to earn a fourth round spot– Australian Open 2012
World number seven, Tomas Berdych, confirmed a spot in the last 16 of the Australian Open tournament with a straight sets win over the South African competitor, Kevin Anderson. On Friday, both contestants locked horns for the first
time in their career and Berdych claimed the win with cumulative scores of 7-6(5), 7-6(1), 6-1. Excellent fight was put forth by the inferior ranked South African but unluckily the finishing rallies were won by his counterpart that meant the most.
Both players were equally talented as per the skills were concerned but Berdych had the outer advantage of that superior ranking and more experience of playing major tournaments. No breaks were witnessed throughout the first set
as both players continued to capitalize on their serves games.
Without much drama part from two close calls from the seventh ranked contestant that looked close from the naked eye but were centimetres out of the sidelines. Tie-breaker round witnessed a severe battle for the initial points
but at last the Czech tennis ace clubbed the set lead with two successive points at the end.
Second set was replica of the first one, as no breaks were witnessed in the part of the match as well. Both players capitalized majorly on their serves but this time Anderson looked a better player getting much closer to a breakthrough.
The tie-breaker round was completely owned by the Czech who utilized his guile and ability to generate immense powers on that forehand winners.
Anderson was extremely unlucky throughout the contest, he looked the better player in the second set but his opponent somehow hung on to his serves and ousted the tie breaker round. Scores doesn’t do justice to the 32nd ranked
South African as he deserved better. Trailing two set down and fatigued out from the lengthy play of first two sets, Anderson was seen head down in despair at sidelines during the set break.
Third set was gobbled up by the Czech as he broke serve in the fourth game and then again in the sixth game to double his lead. Leading the scores 5-1, he served for the match and did it in style with couple of aces across the
throat of his opponent.
