Tomas Berdych escorts Czech Republic to the final showdown – Davis Cup WG 2012
World number six, Tomas Berdych, led his Czech Republic to the title-round after triumphing over Carlos Berlocq at the Davis Cup World Group 2012 on Sunday. He summed up a 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 victory against Berlocq on the Argentinean clay courts.
The Czech star crushed Berlocq through exquisite forehands from his box of tricks. As a result, he improved to a 3-0 lifetime in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Head 2 Head Series against the 29-year-old and led his nation cruise into
the final round.
“We made it and that's the goal which we brought in here to Argentina, to try to make the almost impossible and win here,” Berdych stated in courtside interview after stealing the show. “The whole team had belief that we could make it. It’s not impossible
to win in Argentina as we proved. That’s even better to win with such a crazy crowd. It probably gives us so much for the future and I’m really excited to be in the final again.”
The Czech top ranked star high-spiritedly entered the Parque Roca in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He quickly pocketed his entire serves with poise. Berdych required a single break of serve in the eighth game to click the opening set with a 6-3 win.
Berdych maintained his intensity in the set number two. With an early break of serve, the Czech leaped to a 3-1 lead. He held his remaining serves through massive forehands and capitalised on another break chance in the last game to clinch the set with a
6-3 score line.
The 27-year-old carried his rhythm in the following set and after getting the coveted break in the fourth game, he jumped to a 4-1 lead. Apart from losing his edge in the seventh game, the Czech remained focused and cashed in another break chance to pocket
the set with a 6-4 win.
The Argentinean veteran replaced his compatriot Juan Martin Del Potro who pulled out from the event prior to his clash due to a wrist injury.
Czech Republic will square off against the Spanish team in the final showdown.
