Tomas Berdych ousts Thomaz Bellucci in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 at the 2011 BNP Paribas Open
Czech tennis pro Tomas Berdych, currently ranked World Number 7, defeated Brazilian tennis pro Thomaz Bellucci in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 at the third round of the 2011 ATP World Tour Masters Indian Wells. The player, who is seeded
seventh at the Masters event, took a little over an hour and fourteen minutes to defeat his opponent.
The match was an easy one for Berdych, who broke Bellucci’s serve three times and saved both of his own break points. He committed just one double fault, while his opponent committed twice that number. In addition to this, Berdych
also scored two aces and won a whopping 89 per cent of his points on the first serve.
Berdych has been playing professionally for nine years now, having joined the ranks of the Association of Tennis Professionals in 2002. He is 25 years old, and has won five ATP career titles to date. So far this year, the Czech
tennis player has won fifteen of twenty matches.
On the other hand, Thomaz Bellucci has been part of the ATP Tour since 2005. Although he is 23-years-old, the player has only spent six years as a professional player. He plays left-handed tennis, and has won nine matches out of
fifteen in 2011. The Brazilian pro has won two career titles so far.
The two players have met once before on the court, competing against each other at the Brisbane International last year in 2010. They undid their second round opponents to set up a quarterfinal match on the hard courts of Australia
in the beginning of the year, and Berdych managed to oust his opponent in three tough sets to proceed to the semi-finals of the tournament. Their head-to-head score is now 2-0 for Berdych.
Berdych defeated Polish tennis pro Lukasz Kubot in the first round of the tournament, and extended his run at the tournament with this victory. He will either face seventeenth seed Marin Cilic or twelfth seed Stanislas Wawrinka
in the fourth round, depending on the outcome of their third round matches.
