Tomas Berdych overthrows Andy Murray in quarter-final run – BNP Paribas Masters 2011
Kicking off with the second fixture of the day, Tomas Berdych, Czech world No.7, overpowered his quarter-final rival of BNP Paribas Masters 2011, Andy Murray, Brit and ranked world No.3, ousting the higher ranked competitor in
a hard hitting three setter, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 in a long three hours and 12 minutes hard indoor circuit match at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Paris, France on Friday, 11th of November 2011.
Walking down the court, the two were greeted with a huge applause. Following up with the match toss and warm up, Berdych started lit up the match serving for the opener rolling down the scoreboard with a double game point winner,
1-0.
Following up with the Czech, Murray nearly gave away a breakpoint, however, managed to win his opening serve to level the scores, 1-1. World No.7 continued to serve game three, taking on the Brit and bagging his second win, 2-1.
World No.3, however, followed to level up again at 2-2.
Winning a game each the two levelled up at 3-3 before the Brit struck and took over the command. Breaking the lower ranked Czech; Murray led the set and followed with another winner, service winner, to roll the scoreboard down
5-3.
The last three games went all the way to possible breakpoints; however, neither of the two was able to break each other. Eventually, Brit world No.3 managed to pull off his sixth win of the set, 6-4, to lead the match 1-0.
Moving on with the second set, Berdych struck back as he served out the second set opener, 1-0, and broke the higher ranked Brit in game two to lead the set, 2-0. Adding another winner to his lead, Czech served out his second service
game to lead three games to zero.
Finally, Murray pulled back a game to cut the lead down, 3-1, however, the Czech kept his defence strong and maintained the lead bagging game five, 4-1. Murray struck back as he served out game eight, 5-3, broke the Czech rival
in the ninth, 5-4, and served out again to level the scores at 5-5.
Gaining his momentum Brit world No.3 kept his defence to push the set into a tiebreaker. Both pulled of winners of their serve during the tiebreaker, however, Berdych turned the tables as he blew of two straight points, after the
two levelled up at 5-5, to finish up the tiebreaker at 7-5.
With scores at level, the two clashed out for the final set of the fixture with Murray serving first and taking away the opener. Berdych followed the Brit as he levelled up at 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, and then on 4-4 before there came a
surprise. The 26-year-old Czech broke his Brit rival in game nine, 5-4, and saved a breakpoint in game ten to finish off the set winning, 6-4, ending the Brit’s unbeaten run and moved into the semis stage of the ATP World Tour Masters 2011.
Through into the semis, Berdych will now rival the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer in the semis of the BNP Paribas Masters 2011 on Saturday, 12th of November 2011.
