Tomas Berdych rams down Janko Tipsarevic in third round clash – BNP Paribas Masters 2011
Czech World No.7, Tomas Berdych, overpowered his third round challenger of BNP Paribas Masters 2011, Serbian world No.13, Janko Tipsarevic, beating him down in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, in an hour and 41 minutes hard court match
at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Paris, France on Thursday, 10th of November.
Kicking off with the fixture, the two walked down the blue indoor court, and warmed up before the Czech won the toss and served the match opener. Serving up his first game, Berdych broke down right away and lost his opening serve,
1-0.
Taking advantage of the breakpoint win, Serbian world No.13 pulled away a winner and led the board with two straight wins, 2-0. Berdych, serving his second game, finally rolled down his side of the score card to cut the lead to
1-2.
Unable to break back, the Czech world No.7 went down in the next three games as the Serbian served-broke-served and led the set 5-1. However, the set was still not over. Berdych, with a mouth opening performance, came back up as
he bewildered the Serbian in the next four games, serve-break-serve-break, to level up the scores at 5-5.
After the four straight games winning run, Berdych did not stop. Serving out game eleven, 6-5, world No.7 broke the lower ranked Serbian for the third time in six consecutive games, game twelve, 7-5, winning the set with an outstanding
comeback.
With his remarkable recovery in the first set, Berdych continued with the second set, however, once again failed to win the set opener. Breaking the world No.7, Tipsarevic once again took a strong start, captivating the first two
games to lead the set, 2-0.
Winning away his first game, game three, Berdych managed to roll down his side of the scoreboard and tail the Serbian until game seven. With scores at 3-4, Czech 26-year-old broke his lower ranked rival in game eight, 4-4, to even
up the scores once again.
Tipsarevic tried to stop the Czech from running away with a straight set victory, however, was unable to put forward a greater defence. Serving out game nine, Berdych broke the Serb in game ten, winning the set, 6-4, and the match
in straight sets.
Although the Serbian had started off positive in both the sets, however, could not hold on to his nerves and that is the main reason for most of the matches he has lost. Anyhow, making his way into the quarter-final round, Berdych
will now play against the sizzling Brit, Andy Murray to decide the winner of the semis spot.
