Tomas Berdych seems positive about future matches
The Czech Republic tennis ace, Tomas Berdych is slowly making his way into the ATP list of top three tennis contenders. Although his name is not quite as apparent as those of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, but it doesn't look like hes going to be staying at the number seven spot for much longer. So far this year, Tomas has knocked down Federer as well as Novak.
In fact the Swiss tennis master, has been hammered down by the twenty four years old Czech on two occasions. The first time was during the month of March in Miami, and then later at the grass court Grand Slam tournament at the All England Club which was also recent. A month ago during the same tournament, Tomas even got the better of Novak Djokovic.
However, the right handed Tomas has not managed to knock down Rafa. Nadal did well to defeat him in the final of the 2010 Wimbledon last month. “He was nearly impossible on the court that day”, Berdych commented of Nadal. “He was extremely good.”
Nadal seems to be his biggest threat for Berdych at the moment. He needs to defeat him in order to begin playing with a high level of confidence against the top ranked tennis players. The Czech however, is of the view that it’s quite impossible to beat Rafa at the moment.
“I think all of the other top ranked players are quite far from Rafa as he is playing extremely well at the moment and we are all kind of following him in one or the other respect. However, there are a couple of other players which you need to defeat as well in order to get close to the Spaniard so it’s quite difficult without any question. Considering the way he is performing over the recent past, he really deserves the top spot”, Tomas added.
As far as his recent performance is concerned, the Czech tennis ace, Tomas Berdych did well to beat Sergiy Stakhovsky in his first round match of the Rogers Cup 2010 in Toronto. As a result of this victory, Tomas has reached the second round of the tournament. Berdych won the two setter clash in just an hour and a half on Tuesday. The final match score was 6-2, 6-4.
Although he was satisfied with the way he played yesterday, the Czech accepted the fact that he needs to improve his game dramatically in order to win big matches in the future.
“At the moment, the most important thing is to forget about my French Open as well as Wimbledon defeats and just play my natural game without feeling any pressure”, he added.
Berdych, after his Wimbledon final defeat over the World number one Rafael Nadal, participated at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic championship as his very first tournament in Washington. He entered the competition as seeded number one however couldn’t pass the quarterfinal stage of the tournament. Xavier Malisse, an unseeded player knocked down the Czech in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.
After his Washington loss Tomas said, “I am not sure whether I am going to participate in this tournament next year or not as if you like the competition along with the environment then you wish to come back. However, if you get an experience like the one, you have to think before coming in the future”, said Tomas.
And when commenting on the fact that he has zero titles this year, Berdych said, “There are still a couple of championships left this season. Although, I want to grab a title or two but it’s not my ultimate goal as what is more important is to reach the later stages of every tournament that you play and carry on with your consistency as you cannot win every single title”.
“Of course, I want to grab major titles as I have failed to capture them after coming so close particularly at Wimbledon. However, still I am performing pretty well”, Berdych said.
In the Rogers Cup 2010, Berdych will probably have to surpass Federer in the quarter final round and Djokovic in the semi finals, in order to meet Nadal once again, in the final battle at York University.
