Tomas Berdych trounces Jurgen Zopp to move to the quarters – If Stockholm Open 2012
Second seed, Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych did not face any difficulty in routing the world number 87, Jurgen Zopp of Estonia, in the second round of the If Stockholm Open.
It took the Czech star just one hour and 11 minutes to grab a straight sets victory 6-1, 6-4 and move to the last-eight stage of this ATP World Tour 250 indoor hard court event.
First set was completely one sided, as Berdych never allowed the Estonian to play freely. The Czech contender dropped only one game throughout, breaking Zopp twice and capitalising on the double advantage to seal it 6-1.
Berdych bombarded four aces and 76 percent of the first serves, claiming 11 of the 16 points on them in the first set. The Czech player was flawless on the second ones, as he clinched all the five points. In comparison, Zopp had
a higher first delivery percentage of 88 but he managed to win just six of the 14 points on them. Berdych did not give any break chance to the Estonian national and availed both of his own.
Second set was far more competitive than the first one, as Berdych and Zopp went neck to neck in the first half and evened out the proceedings at 3-3. The Czech number one nailed a break in the seventh game and won his subsequent
serve to attain a 5-3 lead. Berdych did not allow the Estonian participant to make a comeback, closing it 6-4.
Berdych fired seven aces and did not make any double fault in the second set. The Czech contestant had a low first serve percentage of 55 but managed to clinch 14 of the 16 points on them. The Monte Carlo, Monaco resident saved
the only break point he faced and converted one of the two he received.
Ranked sixth in the world, Berdych is slated to meet the sixth seeded player from Russia, Mikhail Youzhny, in the quarter-finals. The former world number eight gave a harsh beating to the Swedish wild card entrant, Patrik Rosenholm,
downing him in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 in the second round.
