Tomas Elliott pockets Boys 100m breaststroke gold – State Teams SC Championships
Tomas Elliott of NSW pocketed gold medal of the Boys 100m breaststroke in 16-17 years age group on last day of the 2012 State Teams Short Course Championships at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on Monday, October 8.
The 17-year-old Elliott crushed hopes of his opponents in the 100m discipline and cruised his way towards the finishing wall for the title.
Elliott enjoyed an advantage of two strokes over his toughest challenger as he paved his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 02.17 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jesse King of NSW, who stayed 0.35 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing wall as second best finisher with an effort of 1 minute and 02.52 seconds.
King was traced by Joshua Tierney of QLD, who stayed 0.23 seconds slower from overpowering his foregoing finisher and emerged on the victory stand for bronze medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 02.75 seconds.
Tierney was chased by James McKechnie of SA, who remained 0.08 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 1 minute and 02.83 seconds.
Similarly, fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Jared Gilliland of QLD, who stayed 0.18 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 03.01 seconds.
Gilliland was followed by Tim Gouskov of VIC, who was 1.10 seconds apart and proved his eligibility for sixth position by ending his swim in a time of 1 minute and 04.11 seconds.
Seventh spot of the race was obtained by Jack Collins of VIC, who stayed 0.13 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 04.24 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by James Traiforos of NSW, who remained 0.55 seconds apart and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 04.79 seconds.
In addition, Elliott expressed happiness over his victory in the breaststroke event and raked medal for his notable form at the victory ceremony of the tournament.
