Tomas Rojas unbanned by the WBC – Boxing News
Tomas ‘Gusano’ Rojas has been unbanned by the WBC since the organisation could not find evidence for the allegations on him. Rojas explained the quotes he gave to a Mexican newspaper regarding a fight against Jorge Arce, which he threw for $8,000 in 2007. Since there was no solid evidence of the incident, the WBC decided to uplift the ban that was previously levied on Tomas. In addition, the board of directors also confidently voted for Tomas.
The WBC further recommended that Tomas should be careful while giving out statements to the press. Members also suggested Tomas to be careful with his performance in order to avoid such career jeopardizing instances in the future.
Tomas Rojas Gomez comes from Veracruz, Mexico. Being a Mexican professional boxer, he earned pride and glory throughout his short career span before he was banned. Tomas won the interim WBC Super Flyweight title in 2009 on July 18 by beating landsman Everardo Morales. Tomas then went on to win the WBC Super Flyweight Champions in 2010 on September 20 by defeating Kohei Kono in Saitama, Japan. He defended his title against Nobuo Nashiro, former two time WBA Super Flyweight champion, on February 5, 2011. He successfully defended his title by defeating his opponent through a unanimous decision. However, his last fight against Suriyan Sor Rungvisai was not very fortunate for him. The fight took place on August 19, in 2011, in Thailand. Tomas lost his title and was defeated badly by the opponent. Therefore, as of now, Tomas stands as a young former WBC Super Flyweight Champion.
Since his ban has been uplifted, Tomas is now looking forward to more challenging bouts to add to his portfolio. As of now, he has 35 wins, 13 losses, 1 draws and 1 No Contest. His 23 wins came in via knockouts. In total, he has fought 49 bouts to date. If things go well for the Mexican, he will be scheduled to go for another title shot. Since he did not get his rematch after being defeated by Rungvisai. If he gets his rematch, Tomas has chances of winning the title again.
