http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 skipper, Tomas Rosicky may miss his country’s crucial Group A fixture against Poland on Saturday, after suffering a calf injury in the previous match against Greece.
Michal Bilek’s team currently have 3 points out of their first two games, suffering a 4-1 defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Poland-c2983 in
their final group game, in order to guarantee a place in the quarterfinals.
However, the injury to the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 player may rule him out of the climacteric fixture-a scenario Bilek admits will affect their chances of making it into the next stage.
He told the reporters in an interview, “It was his Achilles heel but we hope he is fit for the third match because he is our key player.”
Earlier the Czechs avenged their semi-final defeat at the hands of Greece in Euro 2004 by beating them 2-1 on Tuesday, and in the process also braced their position in the group.
Bilek hailed his team for putting up a spirited show in the match after suffering a disappointing 4-1 defeat against the Russians. He pointed out that they went about the game with a positive and attacking frame of mind, but had to draw to their defences
after Rosicky limped off the field due to an injury.
He added, “There is not one player on the team I would not praise. We wanted to attack even more but it was difficult when Rosicky left.”
The Czechs grabbed an early two-goal lead in the match and dominated the proceedings till the end of the first half. With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Greece-c2908 reducing the deficit to just a single goal immediately after the restart and darted forward time and again in search for the
equalizer, Bilek did some tinkering with his tactics, switching Petr Jiracek from the midfield position to the right wing.
The 47-year old explained that the ploy was aimed at strengthening the Czechs rearguard, and praised Jiracek for vindicating his tactics.
He added, “In this match we wanted to close the defence. That is why Jiracek played in a position that is not usual for him.”
