Tomas Tatar catching the eye of Detroit Red Wings with Grand Rapids Griffins -NHL Update
Tomas Tatar has been performing quite well with American Hockey League (AHL) club, the Grand Rapids Griffins, these past few seasons, but this time around, something is much, much different about the Detroit Red Wings prospect and for him, it just might
be the attention he needs to get into the major leagues.
Changing around his strength and conditioning routine with another coach, Tatar has come out more aggressively this time around and it seems like it is working as the youngster currently is tied with Francie Pare on the minor league team for the most points,
11 goals and 12 assists for a total of 23.
All this change and improvement has without a doubt caught the attention of the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League (NHL) and whenever the lockout comes to an end, using the 22-year-old forward would definitely be in their benefit.
"The one thing that's been real noticeable is his consistency," Jim Nill, the Red Wings assistant general manager, said, according to Detroit News. "From the first game, he's been consistent and there haven't been the ups and downs."
Tatar, a native of Ilava, Slovakia, was picked up by the Detroit Red Wings as the 60th overall back in round-two of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and has played nine major league games with the Red Wings up until now. He has one goal in those appearances,
which was played back in 2010-2011.
"The thing to remember is he's still a young player," Nill added. "He came over at a young age, and this is a good, extremely competitive league against players that are older, bigger, stronger.”
"He continues to get stronger, gain experience. He just needs to keep doing those things, keep progressing, keep being consistent."
He is also currently on a three-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings to an entry-level deal which is worth a total of $2.07 million and will come to an end after the 2013-2014 regular season.
It will genuinely be interesting to see the youngster continue playing and improving his performance and kick off his career in the major league.
