Tomasz Adamek collects impressive unanimous win over returning Eddie Chambers – Boxing News
Tomasz Adamek, the former IBF International and WBO NABO heavyweight champion, made Eddie Chambers return, his Saturday night’s opponent, a nightmare and collected an impressive unanimous decision to grab the vacant IBF North American heavyweight title,
in a 12-round bout held on June 16, 2012.
The duo headlined the high-profiled special NBC Sports Network edition which was organised and promoted by Kathy Duva of Main Events. The night was co-headlined by the 10-round bout between Bryant Jennings and Steve Collins for the vacant USBA heavyweight
gold.
The ring for the showdown was set up at Prudential Center situated in Newark, New Jersey, United States. The bout was a classic one and mesmerised the roaring crowd who chanted slogans and motivated the two brawlers.
Adamek, 35, was entering the ring with a substantial upper hand over Eddie. The odds from the very first second were in favour of the Polish ‘Goral’ who did not allow the American Chambers to capitalise his mistakes.
Tomasz’s resume boasted an intimidating 45 wins in a total 47 bouts with 28 coming via knockout. His Saturday night opponent, Chambers, 30, was entering in his 39th career bout and boasted 36 wins. Also known as ‘Fast’, Eddie has pinned 18 of his opponents
by knockout. The bout faced a bit concussion in the first round when Eddie received an injury.
With the start of the bout, Eddie moved forward to attack the advancing Adamek and crashed his bicep with Polish’s strong arm as a result the muscle got torn and Chambers become somewhat handicap for the rest of the bout.
Eddie did not lose hope and stayed in the ring for the remaining 12 rounds giving Adamek a serious tough time. Most probably due to the injury, the third, fourth and fifth rounds were emphatically dominated by the Polish slugger who went on with his attacks
without facing any stiff problem.
At the end of the 12-round showdown, Adamek collected a high-profile win and the vacant title by receiving 116-112, 116-112 and 119-109 scores. After the bout Adamek stated, “The fight was very close, but I felt I fought my fight and I won the fight. I was
looking to win the fight. If I start to look to knock someone out, you can lose. I felt I controlled the fight.”
Eddie, while sharing his injury status commented, “I’m sure I would have won the fight if I had both hands. I threw a hook off my jab and his big arm got in the way. I must have torn something in the bicep. I tried later to throw some punches with my left,
but I couldn’t muscle anything with my left. I had to figure out what to do.”
With this win Adamek has sealed his place on World Boxing Organisation’s third rank and in addition is the IBF North American heavyweight champion. Eddie, on the contrary, has faced a dismal upset and has unfortunately received his third career loss.
