Tomasz Adamek talks about Manny Pacquiao’s knockout – Boxing News
Former world champion Tomasz Adamek believes Manny Pacquiao’s was a surprise, as no one knew Marquez would land such a perfect punch. When asked if it was planned, Adamek denied saying no one has the time to ‘think’ in a boxing match and everything is very
much dependent upon speed, flexibility and reflexes.
Adamek is scheduled to face Steve Cunningham on December 22 this year for the number 2 spot in the IBF rankings. Adamek currently stands with 47 wins, 2 losses and 29 knockouts in his portfolio while Cunningham stands with 25 wins, 4 losses and 12 knockouts
in his bag.
“was unbelievable timing, luck and reflexes – Pacquiao charged in with his left, Marquez ducked and moved his fist at exactly the same time and connected,” said Adamek. “This thing was over before Pacquiao hit the floor. It’s a game of inches and split seconds
when you’re fighting on the championship level. If Marquez would have reacted a tenth of the second too late, he would have gone down. All the fighters out there know exactly what I mean.”
When asked if Marquez was planning it in the ring, Adamek replied, “No way, because if you wait for it, it will never happen. I thought before the fight between those great guys that Marquez would win because he’s got a perfect weapon for Manny’s style –
counterpunch – but I never expected it would happen like that.”
Pacquiao lost to Marquez past Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas via sixth round knockout. Even though Pacquiao was winning on points, he took his chances and tried to knockout Marquez. Unfortunately, Pacquiao’s aggression fired back and the Filipino
hit the mat with a huge right counter from Marquez.
It was the fourth fight between the two and the very first victory for Marquez over Pacquiao. Previously, Marquez lost two fights to Pacquiao via unanimous decision and split decision. The first fight ended up in a tie.
The rivalry between the two is already being rated as the best in the business of boxing, with chances of more fights to come in the future.
