Tomasz Bednarek ousts Massimo Bosa in the first qualifier – Friuladria Tennis Cup 2012 CH
Tomasz Bednarek of Poland moved to the second round of the qualifying draw by defeating Italy’s Massimo Bosa in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 in the opener at the Friuladria Credit Agricole Tennis Cup on Saturday. The Polish player needed
one hour and 44 minutes to come out victorious from a one sided match.
Bosa made a flawless start, as he did not lose even one point in the opening two games of the match and built a 2-0 lead. The Italian participant maintained his lead till the ninth, taking the score t 5-4 in his favour. Serving
for the set at that moment, Bosa could not hold and evened out the proceedings at 5-5. The Italian contender also lost the following two and dropped the opener 5-7.
Bednarek pounded five aces on his rival but he also committed three double faults, keeping his first serve percentage at 55. The Polish player had a not so good conversion rate, as he secured merely 14 of the 23 first and 11 of
the 19 second delivery points. Bednarek put away two of the three break threats he came across and utilised two of the five chances he created in the opener.
In the second set, there was no break of serve in the first three games, taking the score to 2-1 in Bednarek’s favour. The Polish contestant struck in the fourth and consolidated on it to race to a 4-1 lead. Bosa was unable to
hold when he served to stay in contention at 2-5 and went down 2-6.
Ranked 937th in the world, Bednarek banged in five aces and did not make any double fault this time. The Polish player managed to maintain a low percentage of 37 but succeeded in converting eight of the 11 of them into
points. Bednarek saved the only break point he faced and converted two of the four he received in the second set.
The Polish contestant is slated to lock horns with the world number 243, Alejandro Gonzalez of Colombia, in the second qualifier. Seeded first in the draw, Gonzalez received a bye in the opening qualifier.
