  1. Hard to tell until they get their full color, and then it's sometimes hard to tell then as well.  Not too long ago Martha Stewart had an article on the different kinds of tomato plants.  I would check out her website and put tomato in the search then click on plants.  Her website of course is www.marthastewart.com

  2. what you have there is some very good green tomatos.

    they look great!!

just pick them when they look good enough to eat, ie red.

  3. they look like they will be done and red in a few days ,or the

other type of tomatos (dont remember the tech name )but there called green tomatos (and just as good to eat ).

  4. It looks like you have a patio tomato.  Did you buy it in a large pot at a garden center?  That is what they usually sell in bigger pots.  These types of plants are determinate, which means they only grow so big and then stop, versus indeterminate which most people grow in a garden...these grow until frost or you tear them out.  Anyway, you probably will get a medium sized red tomato that is good for eating fresh on a juicy hamburger, in a salad etc.!!!!  Enjoy, and try one before you give them all away!

  5. Hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like they have small bumpy shoulders.... I am thinking Brandywine or Scotia. Both are good all purpose red tomatoes.

You can eat them green once they are fat and glossy, or let them ripen up on the vine - fresh ripe tomatoes are an amazing thing to eat - cannot be compared to what you buy in the store which is usually not ripe, picked a long time ago, refrigerated (never refrigerate a tomato) and bred to ship and store well. The exact opposite of what good homegrown tomato should be.

There are 2 things money can't buy - true love and homegrown tomatoes. Now you have at least one of the two! :) Enjoy!

  6. Yep, literally hundreds of varieties out there. Another great site is for Tomatoe Fest. Gary Ibsen and his wife are the masters of tomatoe growing out here in the west. I know you are curious but in the long run it's how much you enjoy them when they ripen. : ' )
