Tomato plant disease?

I have a couple of tomato plants that I bought from a nursery. They looked fine and were mature and even had some blooms when I brought them home, 2 weeks ago. Now they have lower leaves yellow, with teeny tiny black spots on them. What is this and what do I do? I have a large garden, growing many different veggies, including many other tomato plants.

  1. your over watering them too much.  Back off a little on watering them ok, most plants like tomatoes can and do take alot of water, but with the yellow colors you described, it sounds like too much water or a magnesium issue.

also if you are gardening in heavy clay soil, that type of soil retains water alot better than sandy soil by far.

    Hope this helps

  3. Also make sure you are watering them at the base and not over top.  Watering the leaves can leave droplets on the leaves that act like little magnifying lenses that can scorch the leaves when the plant is in the sunlight.

However this usually causes more of a crispy brown affect...it usually has a decent amount of yellow around the brown area.

Since there wasn't a picture attached, just thought I'd throw out another idea

  4. You have a very common disease that affects tomato plants called "early blight". It causes dark lesions to form on the leaves and turns them yellow before they drop to the ground. At this stage of the disease it is almost impossible to cure. The plants should have been treated with a fungicide early on during the growth stage for full control. You will just have to bear with the disease now and hopefully you will get somewhat of a crop. It can and may spread to the fruit however and this would not be a good thing. Iam providing a link with a picture for you to compare your observations to. If you need more info you can search early blight on your yahoo search bar. Hope this helps...
