Tomatoe and lettuce beds

Question

I've never gardened before but i would like to plant some tomatoes and lettuce in my small backyard.. can anyone give me any tips as how to going about doing this, and would it be worthwhile at this time of year in an irish climate. Thanks for your help!

Tomato and lettuce season is over (at least it's harvest time and too late to plant). However, have you looked into a vertical garden? I think you can look them up as "urban gardens" for some ideas.
