Tomatoes and bottom rot?

A good portion of our tomatoes are getting bottom rot. Does anyone have any thoughts on why this happens and how to stop it? We had the same problem last year.

  1. There has been a question asked about this recently which you can find via a  search. Bottom rot is usually caused by irregular watering. If the soil dries out at any time this can cause it especially if grown in a greenhouse.

Are you growing them in a peat based compost? If this dries out it takes a lot of watering to get it totally wet again.

  2. Do you mean blossom end rot?  That's two-fold:  lack of calcium in the soi and irregular watering.  Keep your tomatoes warm and moist at all times, fertilize well and they should do fine with practice.  Blossom end rot is actually quite common and can even be found in greenhouses.

be sure to add some sort of calcium to your soil at the end of this season so it will be present for next year and you don't have to do this again.... watering regularly is key, also....

  4. ive heard that over watering your tomatoes can cause this.
