Square Enix pegs down the 5th March, 2013 as the date for Lara Croft’s return to the video gaming world while NetherRealm is set to give DC Universe the Mortal Kombat treatment.
Lara Croft is set to mark her long awaited debut on the current generation of home consoles next year, as the series reboot will take us through the journey of how she went from being a pant wearing no-one to a shorts wearing, dual pistol wielding treasure
hunter.
However, despite making an entry at last year’s E3 Press Conference with a gorgeous trailer, the game has flown under the radar somewhat. One can expect the game to make another, more notable, appearance at this year’s E3 yet gamers will have to wait until
next year before they can finally get their hands back on the Tomb Raider.
Darrell Gallagher, the Head of Crystal Dynamics, made the following statement: "Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game's release date by a few months, from Fall
2012 to the first quarter of 2013,"
Moving on now to the prospect of a new IP for NetherRealm, the developer’s of the bloody (brilliant) Mortal Kombat games. It turns out that the studio is working on a game that is the DC comic book universe equivalent of the Mortal Kombat series.
The game was pitched by Warner Bros. as a game that would have, "a deep, original story featuring a large cast of favourite DC Comics icons."
The pitch for Injustice: Gods Among Us, continued, “Set in a world where the lines between good and evil are blurred, players will experience heroes and villains engaging in epic battles on a massive scale.”
Gamers can expect the likes of Batman, Superman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy and many more characters from the DC Universe to feature in the game.
The statement concluded, "We can't wait to reveal Injustice: Gods Among Us because it will give our fans and gamers an epic experience as they battle like gods as their favourite DC Comics villains and heroes.”
It was only a matter of time before the DC universe got the fighting game treatment especially after Marvel has carved out a niche for itself in the market.
